How Women Can Lead: Lessons for Japan

Japan is one of the world’s most advanced economies and hosts many global corporations that are leaders in their field. Yet is is far behind most other advanced economies, as well as many emerging countries, when it comes to the percentage of women in management and executive positions in the private sector, government, and academia. As Japan’s population declines, the country will have to employ all its human resources at maximum efficiency. How can Japan better use the female half of its workforce? What are the obstacles that women face in Japan?

Kay Deguchi

Senior Executive VP at Bell Systems

Kay Deguchi has held various positions at Fortune 500 companies, becoming the first female president in the orthopedic industry at Stryker Japan. She currently is the Senior Executive VP at Bell Systems. She was recently captioned on the front page of Nikkei Newspaper in the article ” Women- its Future”. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo and holds and MBA from Harvard Business School.
