Steve Barnett: Is Asia Driving Global Growth? [Cancelled]

Friday, May 11, 2012   19:30 - 22:00

  • Steve Barnett

Due to unseen circumstances, we have to cancel this event. Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. We would like to reorganize the talk in the future if possible. Thank you for your understanding!

The global financial crisis in 2008 had a strong impact on all economies, including Asia, However, Asia as a whole fared much better than the rest of the world and is set to continue to grow faster. The presentation will start with an overview of the latest IMF world economic outlook, and then to turn to Asia. It will document Asia’s steady rise as a global economic power, and demonstrate that Asia has become a key engine of global growth. Indeed, Asia has accounted for a larger share of global growth than a combined US and EU economic bloc over the past decade and is expected to continue to do so into the foreseeable future. And, perhaps surprising to many, Asia has also become the world’s largest consumer market—surpassing even a combined US and EU.
